They do not stock fresh produce or meat, but the savings on the items they do stock make it worth a look.

2. SILLY SOLLY’S

Silly Solly’s is a discount grocery warehouse chain that offers a wide range of products at very affordable prices – nothing over $5! The stores sell everything from nonperishable groceries, some freezer foods (dumplings, ice creams, tv dinners), homewares and kitchen products, laundry powder, toys and beauty products.

3. BARGAIN DEPOT – Grocery Clearance Centre

The Bargain Depot grocery clearance stores in Victoria offer amazing discounts on groceries that are close to their expiry date or are discontinued lines. Stock changes often, so it’s worth coming back frequently to check out their range of products.

It’s famous for cheap snacks and canned goods, but they also have a wide variety of cereals, chocolates, milk and dairy products, and other home essentials at rock bottom prices. They have a physical store in Dandenong (VIC) and also offer online ordering and delivery options.

4. NQR (Not Quite Right)

Located in Victoria and South Australia, NQR, which stands for Not Quite Right, is another great discount grocery warehouse. They also sell fresh meat, which is prepared onsite as well as fresh fruit and vegetables from local suppliers.

I’ve recently stumbled upon a grocery clearance warehouse in an industrial area in Sydney’s North West. They stock non-perishables, some fresh food, eggs, cosmetics, and some freezer and fridge items.

What about Costco?

I find that Costco is actually expensive and not really budget-friendly.

Their offering is all about big volume – bulk – which does not work for everyone. And while buying in bulk is economical sometimes, it’s not always with Costco. When you compare the cost of their brand products to homebrand, half-price specials, and discount grocery warehouse prices, there are no real savings.

They also charge a membership fee to shop there. I know what I’d rather do with that money…
